If you have a very low income or none at all, you should be able to get the CMU, definately get an appointmenty with you local assistant sociale.

I think that if you are able to prove you have under €661 a month to live on you can get monthly food parcels that will supply you with three weeks food out of four (I don't know what they expect someone to do on the fourth week though!). You need to go and ask for assistance sociale at the hotel de ville or the mairie.
