We both need eye tests and new specs - we have varifocals etc., and realise there are no "Specs Savers" here - can anyone recommend good opticians we can go to for both testing and providing new specs. AND reasonable. In the Ploermel (area 56) districts - need these quite quickly - as old eyesight getting dodgy !!! Many thanks. BH.

I have my eyes tested here and then order from the internet. I wear variofocals, have never had a problem with the orders (I have ordered from both theUK and USA). I got my doctor to refer me for the eye test - ended up in Rennes, and had a very thorough test! The glasses were cheaper than similar french ones , but I do need a very high index lens and wanted progressive variofocals. Please contact me if you want details of the websites.

You may have a problem there if you are in a hurry. You have to go to the opthalmologist for an eye test. You will find these listed in the yellow pages (medecin - opthalmologist). There are not opticians in shops like in the UK. There is usually a long waiting list, can be up to three months unless it is classed urgent. This costs around 28€. You then take your prescription to the glasses shop, the nearest to Specsavers here that I have found is OPTIC 2000.
Hope that helps | |

| sorry, forgot to say that glasses are extremely expensive over here, I would say that if you are planning a trip back to the UK then it may be quicker and cheaper to wait until then |
