Havfe a little patience!

Yes I know there are postings which seem to ask questions which are seemingly solved by using your common sense, but for "Newbys", especially with little or no French, life over here can be almost scary at times. A problem which you could solve quite easily by picking up the phone in the UK, or popping into a shop, can seem unsurmountable. So, if someone asks a "stupid question", or one that annoys you by seeming trivial, just try to be helpful, not smart alecy and abrupt.

Hear Hear Myrtle, When people first come here they probably don't speak french and they are probably a little nervous moving to a foreign country, yes we know they repeat questions but to be able to ask someone in english is probably a big relief,everyone needs a little help sometime ( sounds like a song title!!! ) SO LETS ALL HAVE A LITTLE PATIENCE.

I wonder why people should turn first to a forum
instead of turning first to the firms or authorities whose job
it is to provide them with answers, and accurate ones too!
Many posters remark that they have been made amazingly
welcome when inquiring at the right place!

The language barrier doesn't account for all difficulties, apparently.
Fending for oneself implies phoning, or visiting the right office,
or simply googling a few relevant words, and then,
if no satisfactory response has been obtained,
(and once the computer in on!) post a thread on AI!

But even then, the "Search" in "Classifieds & Discussions"
(at the top right hand side) enables us to check whether
our problem has already been discussed, and solved!

for instance: heating oil, fioul/ taxe d'habitation/ registering a car... etc...
That's not all...
It's amazing how the heaps of practicalities provided by
AngloInfo Brittany are simply ignored!
It seems easy enough though
to click on the left of the screen, on "AngloInfo", and,
at the bottom right, on "Essential INFOrmation";
all the info there is accurate and up-to-date;
it covers all important issues and is in English!!!

So, Myrtle, that's why some regular posters get irritated!
They probably feel such forum is great for discussions,
and to help people who have failed to manage on their own,
but after trying!

frogchignan - its not up to regular posters to judge people. If they cant answer in a friendly helpful way they should keep their thoughts to themselves.
Alot of people that come on here are older and do not understang 'google' etc, and think what a quiet forum this would be if everyone got their answers from the search box, not to mention the out of date replies.
Nobody should feel embarrased or awkward to ask anything on here no matter how many times it has been asked and no matter how bad their spelling is.

I agree, are forums not here to get help and to chat to people?

You don't have to reply to posts if you don't want to and if it annoys you or irritates you then just ignore it and find a posting that does interest you.

So carry on asking questions no matter how trivial they might seem to some, surely the one asking the question needs a little help and not to be told to go elsewhere to look for an answer!!
