| Cars, Bikes & Driving Towing A Caravan to Spain in January. Campsites? | charlypaul posted on 07/11/2009 at 14:10
e-mail charlypaul | Hi, We`re towing our caravan to Mercia in Southern Spain in January for a couple of months stay. Does anyone know of any sites that are open in France and Spain at that time of year for over night stops on the journey down?
I have a site sorted for our stay in Spain so don`t need advising about this.
Thanks in anticpation.

Try Rincon de Luna near Guadamar or the site at La Manga. Inland there's only Camping Costajan at Aranda del Duro about 100 km from Madrid but the cross country route is hazardous in winter due to fog, ice and snow. Note that Spanish electrics are usually low amperage and you may not be able to get more than 6A. On the west coast route in France I can recommend C.Larrouletta near St Jean de Luz.
If you haven't yet got the Caravan Cub book on continental sites I suggest you get a copy. |

They are free, brightly lit, have 24 hour coffee and supplies, and safe as they are used by lorry drivers and business travellers - unlike the UK, where you are charged to spend a night in safety!
Much easier than camp sites, which, in France, are few and far between out of season. In Spain, there are many sites open in Winter and these can easily be found on the internet with appropriate use of Google. (By the way, Mercia is Manchester, isn't it? Murcia is in Spain!!!)
