The Taxman Cometh

There are obvious advantages to being well informed and well prepared when it comes to understanding French taxation. Expatriates moving to France and setting up a new home after a career change or retirement - and those with a second home or investment property in the country - can benefit from getting good advice early on.

Knowing where to turn

Taxes affect everyone, so it makes sense to be well prepared by ensuring you understand taxation and your tax status in France: which taxes apply to you, how your tax obligations are calculated, how much you have to pay, when you have to pay it, and for what.

AngloINFO has a series of INFOrmation Pages dealing specifically with this subject. See the following pages on:

Locally-based, English-speaking experts can help you plan your finances, whether it's drawing a pension, investing savings or understanding the effects of capital gains tax on a project. Find an accountant or specialist on money and taxation matters in the Financial & Legal category of The AngloFILE.

Don't forget: May is tax return month; postal returns have to be at the tax office by 31 May. If you prefer, you can fill in your tax return online and get a few weeks grace. See the INFOrmation Page French Tax Payment Deadlines for all the details!

And finally, got a quick tax question? You could put it to fellow locals via the Financial & Legal section of The Forum.
