Canals & Waterways in Brittany

Who to call and where to go to if you want to take a boat out on the rivers and canals of Brittany.

There are four main waterways in Brittany with departure points at Sucé-sur-Erdre, Messac, Redon, Dinan, Rohan, Chateauneuf du Faou and Roche-Bernard. 

  • Nantes-Brest Canal: The Nantes in Loire-Atlantique to Morbihan section is 205 Kms with 105 locks. 
  • Blavet River: 72 Kms, 28 locks
  • Nante-Brest Canal and the Aulne River: Finistère section is 104 Kms with 35 locks.
  • The Channel/Ocean link: 238 Kms with 64 locks.

No permits are needed. Speed limits on canals is 6 Km per hour and 8 to 10 Km per hour on rivers.
